ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE There is disclosed an injectable anesthetic pharmaceutical composition which does not exhibit muscle rigidity and which includes an anesthetic effective amount of at least one substituted N-(4-piperidinyl)- N-amide and a muscle rigidity inhibiting effective amount of at least one alpha-2 adrenergic agonist as principle ingredients. Also disclosed are methods of inducing and maintaining anesthesia without muscle rigidity by administering said composition to warm blooded animals.
