The invention provides an organic diacid anhydride-modified chitosan containing a polar additive comprising water soluble compounds containing one or more hydroxyl groups or one or more amino groups, including compounds containing both hydroxyl and amine groups, having a molecular weight less than about 2000, preferably less than about 1000. The invention also provides fluids useful in various well drilling and servicing operations comprising an alkaline aqueous liquid containing an organic diacid anhydride, chitosan, and the polar additive therein, as well as a method of drilling wells therewith.

Cette invention concerne un chitosane modifié par un anhydride de diacide organique, qui comprend un produit d'addition polaire constitué de composés solubles dans l'eau contenant un ou plusieurs groupe(s) hydroxyle(s) ou un ou plusieurs groupe(s) amino; comprend des composés contenant à la fois des groupes hydroxyles et des groupes amines; et présente un poids moléculaire inférieur à environ 2000, de préférence inférieur à environ 1000. L'invention concerne également des fluides utiles dans diverses opérations de forage de puits et d'entretien. Ces fluides comprennent un liquide aqueux alcalin contenant un anhydride de diacide organique, un chitosane, et le produit d'addition polaire. L'invention concerne en outre un procédé de forage de puits utilisant les composés de l'invention.
