ABSTRACT The present invention is directed to an improved method for making an anilox roll useful for metering ink or like fluids and to the resultant roll. The method is characterized by the application to an underlying core having a multiplicity of cells formed therein of a ceramic flame spray coating, utilizing oxide particles having an average size of 5 microns or less, the coating being preferably thereafter sealed by a corrosion-resistant polymeric material. The use of ceramic particles in the size range noted enables the formation of a fine screen roller with distributing cells which are accurate replicas of the cells in the core, in contrast to prior methods which substantially distorted the cell configuration.
