Abstract A ventilated animal cage system is provided in which the animal cages hang from shelves of a movable rack. Each shelf is hollow and forms an air duct that exhausts air from the cages hanging therefrom. Cross-contamination between animals in the cages and personnel in the laboratory room is minimized. Animal odors do not escape into the working area.
