ABSTRACT An animal growth promotant comprises as an effective ingredient an acyl peptide of the following formula or its non-toxic salt: Image wherein R1 is lactoyl-alanyl-, R2 is carboxymethyl- amino and R3 is carboxy; or R1 is heptanoyl, R2 is 1-carboxyethylamino and R3 is carboxy; or R1 is stearoyl, R2 is 1-carboxyethylamino and R3 is hydrogen; the growth promotant may be used to improve the efficiency of feed utilization by animals.
