An improved method for extracting copper from copper minerals by heap leaching with dilute sulfuric acid which comprises agglomerating the copper mineral fines prior to their being formed into a heap with an agglomerating agent comprising an anionic polymer of acrylamide or methacrylamide which con- tains at least 5 mole percent of carboxylate or sulfonate groups and has a molecular weight of at least 100,000.
