ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A microporous cross-linked polystyrene matrix is pre- pared by polymerising styrene with 5-20% by weight of a cross- linking monomer, in the presence of 80-150% by weight of the total monomer weight of a porosity producing product or mixture of products having a steroidal spacial structure, and the microporous resin thus formed is chemically modified by introducing alkyl amino groups containing ternary and/or quaternary nitrogen atoms. There is produced a microporous hypocholesterolemising resin con- stituted by a cross-linked polystyrene matrix containing alkyl amino and/or alkyl ammonium groups, and of the following characteristics: - exchange capacity 309 - 6 meg/g. - porosity 0.4 - Oo6 cc/g - average pore diameter 150 - 200 A - specific surface area 70 - 100 m2/g - real density 0.9 - 1.1 g/cc - apparent density 0.5 - 0.6 g/cc the pore form being stereospecifically corresponding to the mole- cules of the bile acids.
