A B S T R A C T The invention relates to an anionic polymer- ization process using an initiator based on an alkali metal amide, as well as to the polymers obtained by this process. The polymerization process according to the invention is characterized in that an initiator is used which results from the combination of an alkali metal amide selected from the group comprising sodium amide, potassium amide or lithium amide and an alkali metal salt of which the cation is selected from the group comprising potassium, lithium or sodium, the anion being selected from the group comprising the thiocyanate, nitrite, cyanide and cyanate anions. These initiators make it possible to carry out the anionic polymerization of vinyl, heterocyclic and diene monomers in order to obtain special polymers or widely used polymers, with great adaptability and under advantageous economic conditions.
