An annular seal for insertion into the seal gap between a housing and a housing cover includes a soft, elastic seal member, as well as a flexible circuit board transversely extending through the seal member, whereby the seal member and the flexible circuit board are stiffened within the seal gap by a stiffening element. The stiffening element has a modulus of elasticity and a thrust modulus which is higher than the respectively corresponding value of the circuit board. The circuit board does not noticeably extend beyond the three-dimensional extent of the seal gap. The annular seal has a reduced weight, allows a better use of the housing, and is more easily installed.
