An antenna for a portable radio device is provided, the gain of which is high regardless of whether it is extended or shortened. There are provided a metal tube having a length corresponding to the length of a quarter-wave antenna element and capable of receiving the antenna element, and a switch mechanism for switching power to the antenna element depending on whether it is extended or shortened. When the antenna element is extended, the metal tube is energized oppositely to the antenna element, and cooperates with the antenna element to functions as a dipole antenna. When the antenna is shortened, on the other hand, the antenna element is not energized and a metal tube functions as a quarter-wave antenna element.

L'invention concerne une antenne destinée à un dispositif radio portatif dont le gain est élevé indépendamment du fait qu'elle soit sortie ou rentrée. On a prévu un tube métallique ayant une longueur correspondant à la longueur de l'élément d'antenne quart-d'onde et capable de recevoir l'élément d'antenne, ainsi qu'un mécanisme de commutateur destiné à commuter l'alimentation de l'élément d'antenne selon qu'elle est sortie ou rentrée. Lorsque l'élément d'antenne est sorti, le tube métallique est alimenté à l'opposé de l'élément d'antenne et il coopère avec l'élément d'antenne pour faire office d'antenne doublée. Lorsque l'antenne est rentrée, l'élément d'antenne n'est pas alimenté et un tube métallique fait office d'élément d'antenne quart-d'onde.
