A plate (11) of biocompatible material is provided having curvature in two planes such that it conforms to the curvature of the L5 vertebral body and to the patient's lordotic curve. Holes are provided receiving screws (16, 20) for anchorage in the vertebral body and sacrum. A flange or foot portion on the plate provides a wider base end area (11B) for support in the L5-S1 interspace. The foot portion is also arranged for appropriate entry angle of screws (20) into the sacrum such as to improve anchorage in the sacrum. Anti- backout and low profile features (21, 22) are incorporated. The anterior lumbar plate is situated to maintain the anterior interbody bone graft (31) in compression by resisting tensile forces during extension.

L'invention concerne une plaque (11) en matériau biocompatible, présentant une courbure dans deux plans de manière à s'adapter à la courbure de la vertèbre L5 et à la courbe lordotique du patient. Ladite plaque comporte également des trous destinés à recevoir des vis (16, 20) pour l'ancrage dans les vertèbres et le sacrum. Une partie rebord ou pied de la plaque présente une zone de base terminale plus large (11B) destinée à être logée dans l'espace L5-S1. Ladite partie pied est également conçue de manière que des vis (20) puissent être introduites à un angle approprié dans le sacrum afin d'améliorer l'ancrage dans le sacrum. La plaque selon l'invention comporte par ailleurs des éléments anti-dévissage et des éléments à profil bas (21, 22). Ladite plaque lombaire antérieure est disposée de manière à maintenir la greffe osseuse intervertébrale antérieure (31) en compression par résistance aux efforts de traction lors de l'extension.
