Abstract of the disclosure: Water-soluble anthraquinon-azo compounds preferably in the form of their salts and written in the form of the free acid having the formula Image (1) in which R1 are both sulfo groups or one R1 is hydrogen and the other is a sulfo group, K is the radical of a coupling component, Z is a fiber-reactive group of which one or two are linked to the coupling component depending on whether n is 1 or 2. The new azo compounds are well suitable for coloring natural and synthetic polyamide fibers, polyurethane fibers and native and regenerated cellulose fibers. They are prepared by selectively dia- zotizing a 1-amino-2-solfo-4-(4'-aminophenyl)-aminoanthra- 2'- and 5'-position by an equivalent amount of sodium nitrite in the presence of a mineral acid to give the diazonium compound of the phenylamino radical which is then coupled with a coupling component containing 1 or 2 fiber-reactive groups.
