A method of preventing bitumen accretion on an article comprising applying to said article an anti-accretion agent comprising a water soluble cationic polymer. The cationic polymer is a copolymer comprising acrylamide or substituted acrylamide, and cationic monomers. The water soluble cationic polymer is of the formula: ([R1]x- [R2]y)2, wherein, R1 is an acrylamide, or substituted acrylamide; R2 is a cationic monomer; x and y range from 1 to 20, and z ranges from 1 to 1,000,000.
