ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Phthalazinone derivatives and their optical isomers are used as medicaments to combat heart rhythm disturbances, to combat pain and to break through multi-drug resistance. The derivatives have the general formula: Image wherein A is phenyl (unsubstituted, mono or multi-halogen substituted), H, C1-3 alkyl. 2-furyl or 2-thienyl, and R is Image wherein Y is H or C1-6 alkyl which may be substituted.
