A drive shaft assembly is provided for allowing rotation of a drive shaft in a single direction. The drive shaft assembly includes a housing, a drive shaft and an overrunning clutch. The overruning clutch includes an inner race having an outer annular contact surface and an outer race having an inner annular contact surface spaced radially from the inner race. The inner annular contact surface and the outer annular contact surface form an annular space therebetween. Provided within this annular space are a plurality of sprags which allow the inner race to rotate in a first direction relative to the outer race while preventing the inner race from rotating in a second direction to the outer race. A drive housing is secured to the outer race and a drive shaft is secured to the inner race so that when rotational force is provided to the drive shaft in the first direction, the drive shaft rotates, but when force is applied to rotate the drive shaft in the reverse direction, the torsional forces on the drive shaft are transferred through the overrunning clutch to the housing thereby preventing rotation of the drive shaft in the second direction. In the preferred embodiment, the drive shaft is coupled to a piston assembly which transfers linear actuation of the piston to rotational movement of the drive shaft.
L'invention concerne un ensemble d'arbre de transmission destiné à assurer la rotation unidirectionnelle d'un arbre de transmission et comprenant un carter, un arbre de transmission et une roue libre. Cette dernière comprend une bague de roulement interne présentant une surface annulaire externe de contact et une bague de roulement externe présentant une surface annulaire interne de contact espacée radialement de la bague de roulement interne. Les surfaces interne et externe forment un espace annulaire intermédiaire dans lequel sont logés plusieurs galets permettant la rotation de la bague de roulement interne dans une première direction par rapport à la bague de roulement externe et empêchant la rotation de la bague de roulement externe dans une seconde direction. Le carter du système d'embrayage est fixé à la bague de roulement externe et l'arbre de transmission est fixé à la bague de roulement interne de manière que l'arbre de transmission tourne lorsque la force de rotation tourne dans la première direction. En revanche, si la force exercée pour faire tourner l'arbre de transmission tourne dans la direction opposée, les forces de torsion exercées sur l'arbre de transmission sont transférées par la roue libre vers le carter empêchant ainsi la rotation de l'arbre de transmission dans la seconde direction. Selon un mode de réalisation préféré, l'arbre de transmission est couplé à un ensemble de piston qui transfère la course linéaire du piston au mouvement rotatif de l'arbre de transmission.
