ABSTRACT Netting for protecting crops from birds which comprises a sheet of thin plastics material such as polythene which has a pattern of slits formed therein to enable the sheet to be expanded in a transverse direction to the slits to produce an array of open polygonal shapes. The slits are arranged in groups extending in parallel alignment with respect to the edge of the sheet, with the slits of one group extending a short distance between the slits of an adjacent group. The netting is manufactured by passing the sheet over a plurality of rotatable blades arranged in a spaced off-set configuration with respect to one another.
