- 11 - ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A self-polishing anti-fouling paint comprises a biocide for marine organisms and a binder which is a linear synthetic film-forming polymer carrying a plurality of free carboxylic acid groups or carboxylic anhydride groups and having an equivalent weight of from 240 to 750. The binder is preferably an addition copolymer of one or more olefinically unsaturated acids or anhydrides.
