ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention provides 1-aryl-2-(1-imidazolyl)- alkyl ethers and thioethers having the following general formula: Image ...I where R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group; Ar is a phenyl group, which may optionally be substituted with one or more halogen atoms, lower alkyl groups or lower alkoxy groups, or a thienyl or halothienyl group; Z is O or S; n is 1 or 2; and Y is an aromatic heterocyclic group, optionally substituted with one or more halogen atoms, lower alkyl groups or lower alkoxy groups and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof. These compounds possess anti-fungal activity.
