ABSTRACT A composition for the treatment of arthritis and allied inflammatory or degenerative joint diseases comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and any two of the compounds selected from hyaluronic acid or water soluble salts thereof, corticosteroids and compounds capable of maintaining the integrity of connective tissues, particularly joint articular cartilage. Compounds suitable for this latter purpose include polysulphated polysaccharides, particularly pentosan polysulphates. Novel metallo complexes of pentosan polysulphates are disclosed as are methods for the treatment of arthritis and allied inflammatory or degenerative joint diseases using the inventive compounds and compositions.
