Abstract of the Disclosure Cosmetics and pharmaceuticals have superior anti- inflammatory activity when they contain appropriate amounts of compounds corresponding to general formula I: Image (I) , in which R1 represents a C1-4 alkyl radical and R2 represents a moiety selected from the group consisting of a tetra- hydrofurfuryloxy moiety; a moiety corresponding to the formula -O-(CH2)n-O-R3, in which n = 2, 3, or 4 and R3 represents a C1-4 alkyl radical; and a moiety corresponding to the formula -NH-(CH2)n-NR4R5, in which n = 2, 3, or 4 and either (i) each of R4 and R5 independently represents a hydrogen or a C1-4 alkyl radical, or (ii) -NR4R5 represents piperidino, 2-pipecolino, 3-pipecolino, 4-pipecolino, pyrrolidono, pyrrolidino, or morpholino. These compounds have little or no odor and may readily be incorporated into conventional pharmaceutical and cosmetic base compositions for topical application.
