2072253 9110681 PCTABS00006 Relatively small, synthetic anti-inflammatory peptides are provided having the primary sequence TN-A1-A2-A3-A4-A5-A6-TC, in which TN is an amino acid portion, A1 through A6 each is a synthetic or natural amino acid in the D- or L-configuration, and TC is a part of or comprises an amidated carboxyl terminal portion. Each of A1, A2 and A5 is a polar amino acid while each of A3, A4 and A6 is a nonpolar amino acid. These relatively small, synthetic peptides inhibit vascular leakage and are usefully administered to mammals for applications such as in the treatment of edema in connection with brain, skin, mucosal and musculature injuries.
