A peptide compound having the sequence Lys-Pro-Ser-Ser-Pro-Pro-Glu-Glu [SEQ ID NO:2] or a substitution variant, addition variant or other chemical derivative thereof inhibits cell invasion, endothelial tube formation or angiogenesis in vitro. A number of substitution variants and addition variants of this peptide, preferably capped at the N- and C-termini, as well as peptidomimetic derivatives, are useful for treating diseases and conditions mediated by undesired and uncontrolled cell invasion and/or angiogenesis. Pharmaceutical compositions comprising the above peptides and derivatives are administered to subjects in need of such treatment in a dosage sufficient to inhibit invasion and/or angiogenesis. The disclosed compositions and methods are particularly useful for suppressing the growth and metastasis of tumors.
L'invention a pour objet un composé peptidique qui possède la séquence Lys-Pro-Ser-Ser-Pro-Pro-Glu-Glu [no. d'id. séq. 2] ou une variante de substitution, une variante d'addition ou un autre dérivé de ladite séquence et qui bloque l'invasion de cellules, la formation de tubes endothéliaux ou l'angiogenèse in vitro. De nombreuses variantes de substitution ou d'addition de ce peptide, coiffés aux extrémités N- et C-, ainsi que leurs dérivés peptidomimétiques, peuvent servir au traitement de maladies et d'états induits par une invasion indésirable et non régulée de cellules et/ou par l'angiogenèse. On administre aux sujets nécessitant ce traitement des compositions pharmaceutiques comprenant les peptides et les dérivés susmentionnés à des doses suffisantes pour bloquer l'invasion et/ou l'angiogenèse. Les compositions et les procédés faisant l'objet de cette invention sont particulièrement utiles pour faire cesser la croissance et la métastase des tumeurs.
