ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Beta-glycosyl C-nucleoside compound of the formula Image wherein X is NR10, S or O R10 is H or alkyl with 1 to 6 carbon atoms Image wherein R6, R7 and R8 are independently selected from H or alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms; or R2 is H, NH2, Image , SR12, or OR12 wherein R16, R11 and R12 are independently selected from H or alkyl of 1-6 carbon atoms; R3 is OH, SR13, or OR9; R4 is OH, SR14 or OR15; R9, R13, R14 and R15 are individually selected from C1-C6 alkyl and C1 to C6 acyl; R5 is OH or H, R'5 is OH or H with the proviso that at least one of R5 or R'5 is H; excluding 2-deazaoxoformycin, and HCl salts thereof. A method of forming the beta-glycosyl C- nucleoside compounds is also disclosed. These compounds have been found to inhibit the growth of leukemic cells. They have anti-tumor activity and also have some anti-viral activity.
