An anti-microbial and/or anti-fungal synthetic fiber and various products made partially or wholly therefrom. The fiber comprises various thermoplastic polymers and additives in a mono-component form or a bi-component form in either a core- sheath or side-by-side configurations. The anti-microbial synthetic fibers comprise inorganic anti--microbial additives, distributed in certain areas to reduce the amount of the anti-microbial agents being used, and therefore the cost of such fibers. The fibers can incorporate anti-microbial additives so that they are not removed by repeated washing in boiling water and in dry clean cycles and become ineffective and conversely enhance access to the additives by washing or the like. The fibers comprise high tenacity polymers (e.g. PET) in one portion and hydrolysis resistance polymers (e.g. PCT) in another portion with the additives. The fibers can further be blended with non-anti-microbial fibers such as cotton, wool, polyester, acrylic, nylon etc. to provide anti-microbial finished fabrics.
L'invention concerne une fibre synthétique antimicrobienne et/ou antifongique et différents produits fabriqués partiellement ou entièrement à partir de cette fibre. La fibre comprend plusieurs polymères et additifs thermoplastiques sous la forme d'un composant unique ou de deux composants, dans une configuration âme-gaine ou côte-à-côte. Les fibres synthétiques antimicrobiennes comprennent des additifs antimicrobiens inorganiques répartis dans certaines zones, ce qui permet de réduire la quantité d'agents antimicrobiens utilisée, et donc le coût de ces fibres. Les fibres peuvent comprendre des additifs antimicrobiens de telle sorte que ces derniers ne soient pas éliminés par des lavages successifs dans de l'eau bouillante et dans des cycles de nettoyage à sec et deviennent inefficaces et facilitent au contraire l'accès aux additifs par un lavage ou analogue. Les fibres comprennent des polymères à haute résistance (par exemple PET) dans une proportion et des polymères à haute résistance à l'hydrolyse (par exemple PCT) dans une autre proportion avec les additifs. Les fibres peuvent en outre être mélangées à des fibres non antimicrobiennes telles que du coton, de la laine, du polyester, de l'acrylique, du Nylon, etc., ce qui permet d'obtenir des tissus finis antimicrobiens.
