Voacamine and its natural and synthetic derivatives such as 16'~decarbometheoxyvoacamine, N6-demethylvoacamine, voacamidine, tabernamine, ervahamine A, vobasine and coronaridine are useful as anti-microbial, anti- parasitic and anti-viral agents. A basic extract of the tertiary alkaloids present in plants of the genus Peschiera or Voacanga, expecially Peschiera fuchsiaefolia can be isolated and used directly as such an agent.

Selon l'invention, la voacamine et ses dérivés naturels et synthétiques, tels que la 16'-décarbométhéoxyvoacamine, la N6-déméthylvoacamine, la voacamidine, la tabernamine, l'ervahamine A, la vobasine et la coronaridine sont utiles en tant qu'agents antimicrobiens, antiparasitaires et antiviraux. Un extrait basique des alcaloïdes tertiaires présents dans des plantes du genre Peschiera ou Voacanga, en particulier Peschiera fuchsiaefolia, peut être isolé et utilisé directement en tant qu'agent antimicrobien, antiparasitaire ou antiviral.
