ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An anti-skid safety pad and pad retention system for rotary drilling rig tables which are formed to define channels or grooves in the upper surface of the pad structure for permitting the accumulation of oil and water to drain and for enabling a worker standing thereon to engage the edge of the worker's shoe or boot therein to provide support and leverage to facilitate the activities necessary for connecting and disconnecting sections of drill pipe. The channels of the safety pad are of any suitable form and con- figuration for conducting fluid such as drilling mud, grease, water solvents and the like to the edge portions of the safety pad so the fluid will not interfere with traction of the worker's shoes or boots thereon.
