7 A finished stair tread for use in constructing a stairway is formed by a wooden panel having a width and length arranged to form a tread of the stairway with a finish coating on at least the upper surface so as to provide a finished floor surface. The wooden panel has a strip of a slip resistant material formed by a particulate material such as sand embedded in the coating on the upper surface extending along at least the majority of the length but spaced in from the ends at the stringers and a part only of the width spaced rearwardly from the nose of the tread and only about two inches in width.
