This invention provides an anti-slipping cane to assist a person walking on either a slippery or a non-slippery surface, selectively. An advantage of the cane configuration disclosed is the ease of conversion of the cane to adapt it to different substrates. A rod member is supported at the bottom end of the cane such that it is roughly parallel to the ground and can be locked in either of two rotary positions: a first position in which projections secured to the rod member extend downwardly and dig into the surface, and a second position in which no projections extend to dig into the surface
