To reduce theft of manual transmission vehicles such as highway tractors, a device prevents movement of the gear shift lever. A mounting plate is attached to a vehicle floor and has a vertical bar welded to the plate and a hollow bar welded at an angle to the vertical bar. A sleeve engages a gear shift lever and a solid bar is attached to the sleeve. The solid bar is inserted into the hollow bar and both have holes which align to form a continuous hole when the two are inter-engaged with the lever in neutral position. A lock is inserted into the continuous hole, fastening the two bars together and immobilizing the gear shift. This reduces theft particularly by allowing the vehicle to be left unattended while the engine is running during a warm up period with the transmission in neutral.
