A lotion composition for killing such viruses as rhinovirus and influenza in addition to imparting a soft, lubricious, lotion-like feel when applied to tissue paper in amounts as low as from about 2 to about 20 % by weight, and tissue paper treated with such lotion compositions are disclosed. The anti-viral action of the lotion is due to the addition of an organic acid such as citric acid or a mixture of adipic acid, glutaric acid, and succinic acids. The solubilization of the organic acids within the lotion matrix and with the infected mucus is aided by the addition of such hydrophilic solvents as propylene glycol and polyethylene glycols. The lubricious lotions also contain a plastic or fluid emollient such as petrolatum, an immobilizing agent such as a fatty alcohol or fatty acid to immobilize the emollient on the surface of the tissue paper web and optionally a non-ionic surfactant to improve wettability when applied to toilet tissue. Because less lotion is required to impart the desired soft, lotion-like feel benefits, detrimental effects on the tensile strength and caliper of the lotioned paper are minimized or avoided. The anhydrous nature of the lotions also aids in the maintenance of such physical properties as tensile and caliper.
L'invention porte sur la composition d'une lotion qui détruit les virus tels que le rhinovirus ou les virus de la grippe tout en conférant aux mouchoirs de soie qui en sont imprégnés, à raison d'environ 2 % à environ 20 % du poids, un toucher doux, glissant et onctueux, et sur des mouchoirs en papier traités à l'aide de ladite lotion. L'action antivirale de la lotion est due à l'adjonction d'un acide organique tel que l'acide citrique ou d'un mélange d'acides adipique, glutarique et succinique. La solubilisation des acides organiques dans la matrice de la lotion et dans le mucus infecté est facilitée par l'adjonction de solvants hydrophiles tels que le propylène glycol ou le polyéthylène glycol. La lotion contient également un émollient plastique ou fluide tel que le pétrolatum, un agent immobilisateur tel qu'un alcool gras ou un acide gras qui immobilise l'émollient à la surface de la bande du mouchoir en papier à du papier de toilette, et facultativement un tensio-actif non ionique accroissant la mouillabilité lorsqu'on l'applique à du papier de toilette. Comme il faut moins de lotion pour obtenir la douceur et l'onctuosité, les effets négatifs sur la résistance et l'épaisseur du papier imprégné de la lotion sont réduits ou éliminés. La nature anhydre des lotions permet de plus le maintien de propriétés physiques telles que la résistance ou l'épaisseur.
