ABSTRACT Novel 4H-furo[3,2-b]indoles which are useful for treating allergies are disclosed. Also disclosed are methods for preparing the indoles, pharmaceutical com- positions containing the indoles and methods for using the pharmaceutical compositions in mammals for treating allergies. The indoles have the general formula: Image (I) wherein R represents H, a halogen atom, -NO2, C1-6alkyl or C1-6alkoxy; R1 represents C1-6alkyl, phenyl or benzyl; R2 represents C1-6alkyl; and R3 represents -COOA, Image and Image , wherein A represents H or C1-6alkyl, or the cations Li, Na, K, Ca, triethylamine, tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane, piperidine, 1,2-ethane- diamine or L-(+)arginine.
