An antibacterial for animals containing a ketonitrile derivative represented by general formula (1) or a salt thereof as the active ingredient and having an excellent antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, wherein R1 represents hydrogen or lower alkyl; R2, R3, R4 and R5 represent each independently hydrogen, halogen, nitro, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or (un)substituted phenoxy; X represents (un)substituted aromatic hydrocarbyl or (un)substituted heterocycle; Y represents (un)substituted aromatic hydrocarbyl, (un)substituted heterocycle, carbonyl substituted by (un)substituted aromatic hydrocarbyl, carbonyl substituted by (un)substituted heterocycle, or N,N-disubstituted carbamoyl.

Agent antibactérien pour animaux renfermant, à titre d'ingrédient actif, un dérivé de cétonitrile répondant à la formule générale (1), ou son sel, et présentant une excellente activité antibactérienne dirigée contre les bactéries à Gram positif et à Gram négatif. Dans ladite formule (1), R?1¿ représente hydrogène ou alkyle inférieur; R?2¿, R?3¿, R?4¿ et R?5¿, indépendamment les uns des autres, représentent hydrogène, halogène, nitro, alkyle inférieur, alcoxy inférieur ou phénoxy éventuellement substitué; X représente hydrocarbyle aromatique éventuellement substitué ou un hétérocycle éventuellement substitué; Y représente hydrocarbyle aromatique éventuellement substitué, un hétérocycle éventuellement substitué, carbonyle substitué par hydrocarbyle aromatique éventuellement substitué, carbonyle substitué par un hétérocycle éventuellement substitué, ou carbamoyle N,N-disubstitué.
