An antimicrobial tubing connector for medical procedures, especially for extracorporeal connections as in peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis tubing sets. A male portion (110) includes a central tube (112) surrounded by a sleeve (120) radially spaced apart from the central tube to define an annular space. A mating female portion (10) includes a tubular body (16) which receives the central tube of the male portion and which is received by the annular space. A set of O-ring seals (22, 36) and mating threads (32, 128) produces a secure fluid-tight connection. An antimicrobial agent such as silver is deposited on one or more of several surfaces, preferably by a durable process such as ion assisted deposition, to prevent touch contamination. Either or both of the male and female portions may be capped with a separate cap, which may also receive the antimicrobial agent.
L'invention concerne un raccord de tube antimicrobien destiné aux interventions médicales, en particulier aux raccords extracorporels, tels que des jeux de tubes de dialyse péritonéale et d'hémodialyse. Une partie mâle (110) comprend un tube central (112) entouré d'une gaine (120) placée radialement à l'écart du tube central pour former un espace annulaire. Une partie femelle d'accouplement (10) comprend un corps tubulaire (16) dans lequel s'emboîte le tube central de la partie mâle et qui vient se loger dans l'espace annulaire. Un jeu de joints toriques d'étanchéité (22)(36) et de filets d'accouplement (32)(128) forme un raccord solide et étanche aux fluides. Un agent antimicrobien tel que l'argent est déposé sur une ou plusieurs surfaces, de préférence selon un procédé durable comme la déposition ionique assistée afin d'empêcher toute contamination au toucher. Chacune des parties mâle et femelle, ou bien les deux, peuvent être munies d'un capuchon séparé, pouvant également être traité avec l'agent antimicrobien.
