Abstract of the Disclosure Derivative of the antibiotic XK-62-2 are prepared by chemically modifying the antibiotic XK-62-2. In particular, the antibiotic XK-62-2 is reacted with an acylating agent so as to acylate at least one of the free amino groups of the antibiotic XK-62-2. Specific derivatives obtained include 2'-N-[L-(-)-.alpha.-hydroxy-.gamma.-carbobenzoxyamino-butyryl] XK-62-2; 1-N-[L-(-)-.alpha.-hydroxy-.gamma.-carbobenzoxyaminobutyryl] XK-62-2; 1-N-2'-N-bis-[L-(-)-.alpha.-hydroxy-.gamma.-carbobenzoxyaminobutyryl] XK-62-2 and 3-N-2'-N-bis-[L-(-)-.alpha.-hydroxy-.gamma.- carbobenzoxyaminobutyryl] XK-62-2.
