ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A novel antibiotic, designated as Antibiotic TA, is dis- closed having maximum absorbance at about 242 nm in methanol and an IR spectrum having peaks at 3400 cm-1, 2900 cm-1, 2850 cm-1, 1425 cm-1, 1575 cm-1, 1650 cm-1, 1750 cm-1 and 1720-1. A process for obtaining Antibiotic TA is also disclosed by cultivating under aerobic conditions a strain of the species Myxococcus xanthus until substantial antibiotic activity is attained, and purifying the anti- biotic. Advantageously Myxococcus xanthus TA is used. The inven- tion relates also to pharmaceutical and veterinary compositions of matter comprising Antibiotic TA as active ingredient.
