Disclosed are therapeutic methods using IL-6 antagonists such as an Ab 1 antibody or antibody fragment having binding specificity for IL-6 to prevent or treat disease or to improve survivability or quality of life of a patient in need thereof Patients will preferably comprise those exhibiting (or at .pi.sk of developing) an elevated serum C-reactive protein level, reduced serum albumin level, elevated D-dimer or other coagulation cascade related protem(s), cachexia, fever, weakness and/or fatigue prior to treatment The subject therapies also may include the administration of other actives such as chemotherapeutics, anti-coagulants, statins, and others
La présente invention concerne des procédés thérapeutiques utilisant des antagonistes de l'IL-6 et notamment un anticorps AbI ou un fragment d'anticorps possédant une spécificité de liaison pour l'IL-6, afin de prévenir ou de traiter une maladie ou d'améliorer la capacité de survie ou la qualité de vie d'un patient le nécessitant. Dans des modes de réalisation préférés, lesdits patients comprennent les patients exhibant (ou à risque de développer) un taux élevé de protéine C-réactive sérique, un taux réduit d'albumine sérique, des D-dimères ou une ou plusieurs autres protéines associées à la cascade de la coagulation élevés, de la cachexie, de la fièvre, de la faiblesse et/ou fatigue préalablement au traitement. Les thérapies ici décrites peuvent également comprendre l'administration d'autres substances actives telles que chimiothérapie, anticoagulants, statines et autres.
