ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a herbicidal composition comprising at least one active herbicidal compound selected from the group consisting of thiolcarbamate, substituted urea, substituted triazine and chloro- acetanilide herbicides, and one or more antidote therefor corresponding to the general formula (I) Image (I) wherein X stands for oxygen or nitrogen, n is 0 or 1, Y is hydrogen, potassium, halogen, hydroxyl or an alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, optionally substituted with hydroxyl or halogen, Z is alkylene, cyclohexylene, cyclohexylidene or phenylene optionally substituted with halogen or nitro with the proviso that if X stands for oxygen, n = 0, and wherein the ratio of antidote to herbicide in the composition is from 0.1 to 50% by weight. The compositions of the invention exhibit excellent antidotal properties, improved selectivity and low phytotoxic side-effects thereby avoiding injury to cultivated plants when used in herbicidally effective amounts.
