An antifouling composition that comprises an effective amount of a furanone of the structure shown and a suitable carrier therefor. In the figure, substituents R1, R2 and R3 are each a hydrogen atom, a hydroxyl group, an alkyl group containing from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, an ether group containing from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, an ester group containing from 1 to 10 carbon atoms or a halogenated alkene containing from 1 to 10 carbon atoms or R2 and R3 together may comprise an unsubstituted or a halogenated alkene containing from 1 to 10 carbon atoms and R4 is a hydrogen or halogen atom, and a suitable carrier therefor.
L'invention concerne des compositions empêchant les dépôts d'organismes marins, contenant une quantité suffisante d'une furanone ayant la structure représentée sur la figure 1, ainsi qu'un vecteur approprié pour celle-ci. Sur la figure 1, les substituants R¿1?, R¿2? et R¿3? sont chacun un atome d'hydrogène, un groupe hydroxyle, un groupe alkyle ayant de 1 à 10 atomes de carbone, un groupe éther ayant de 1 à 10 atomes de carbone, un groupe ester ayant de 1 à 10 atomes de carbone ou un alcane halogéné ayant de 1 à 10 atomes de carbone ou R¿2? et R¿3? forment ensemble un alkylène non substitué ou halogéné ayant de 1 à 10 atomes de carbone et R¿4? est un hydrogène ou un halogène.
