The protein is characterized by having an approximate molecular weight of 47,000 to 53,000 and an isoelectric point of from about 4.0-4.4. The method detects the presence of an immunological complex between an antibody to Protein 8 and an antigen in a physiological fluid of the host external to the fetus.
