ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention concerns a newly isolated retro- virus extract obtained from a T-lymphotropic retrovirus, purified by precipitation and equilibrium uniting in a sucrose gradient, and containing a p25 protein which recognizes immunologically sera of patients afflicted with lymphadenopathy syndrom (LAS) or acquired immune deficiency syndrom (AIDS). It relates to a method and kit for in vivo assay of LAS or AIDS involving contact- ing sera from patients to be diagnosed for such diseases with said retrovirus extract labelled by a radioactive, enzymatic or immunofluorescent label and by detecting the immunological reaction, if any. The invention further relates to the use of the newly isolated retro- virus extract as a source of AIDS control antigen.
