Antiinflammatory carbinoloimiazoles are provided which have the formula: (I) Image or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein R1 and R2 independently are H, F, Cl, Br, CH3, OE 3 or S(O)nR3 where n is 0, 1 or 2 and R3 is alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms; R4 is H or alkyl of 1-4 carbon atoms with the proviso that R4 is H when m is 2 or 3; and m is 1 to 3. The carbinoloimidazoles are preferably administered as topical antiinflammatory compositions.
