The present invention is directed to an antimicrobial caries-detecting composition comprising water and/or a water-miscible solvent, a dye capable of staining the caries-infected part of teeth and at least an antimicrobial agent selected from the group consisting of cationic microbicides, biguanide-type microbicides and halogenated diphenyl ether-type microbicides. The composition is used by dentists and other dental care professionals in odontological treatment of caries--infected teeth.
