The present invention provides antimicrobial coatings for coating substrate surfaces, particularly medical devices, for preventing bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation by inhibiting microbial growth and proliferation on the coating surface. The antimicrobial coatings are composed of a hydrogel and a bioactive agent including a substantially water-insoluble antimicrobial metallic material that is solubilized within the coating. Antimicrobial coating formulations for obtaining such coatings, and coating methods are also described.

L'invention concerne des revêtements antimicrobiens destinés à revêtir des surfaces de substrat, en particulier, de dispositifs médicaux, afin d'empêcher une adhésion bactérienne et la formation d'un biofilm par inhibition de la croissance et de la prolifération bactériennes sur la surface du revêtement. Les revêtements antimicrobiens sont composé d'un hydrogel et d'un agent bioactif comprenant un matériau métallique antimicrobien sensiblement insoluble dans l'eau qui se dissout dans le revêtement. L'invention concerne également des formulations de revêtement antimicrobien permettant d'obtenir lesdits revêtements et des procédés de revêtement.
