The present invention relates to antimicrobial compositions which provide enhanced immediate as well as residual anti-viral and antibacterial efficacy. The antimicrobial compositions of the present invention provide previously unseen residual effectiveness against Gram negative bacteria, Gram positive bacteria, and viruses, fungi, and improved immediate germ reduction upon use. These compositions comprise: (a) a safe and effective amount of a benzoic acid analog; (b) a safe and effective amount of a metal salt; and (c) a dermatologically acceptable carrier for the acid and salt wherein said composition has a pH of from about 1 to about 7. The invention further relates to methods of use for the present compositions as well as antimicrobial products which incorporate the compositions.
La présente invention concerne des compositions antimicrobiennes possédant une efficacité antivirale et antibactérienne immédiate et résiduelle améliorée. Les compositions antimicrobiennes de l'invention possèdent une efficacité résiduelle jamais observée auparavant contre les bactéries Gram négatif, les bactéries Gram positif, les virus et les champignons et elles entraînent une réduction immédiate du nombre de germes dès qu'elles sont utilisées. Ces compositions comprennent: (a) une quantité sûre et efficace d'un analogue de l'acide benzoïque; (b) une quantité sûre et efficace d'un sel métallique; et (c) un véhicule dermatologiquement acceptable pour l'acide et le sel, la composition précitée possédant un pH compris entre environ 1 et environ 7. L'invention concerne en outre des procédés d'utilisation des compositions de la présente invention ainsi que des produits antimicrobiens dans lesquels entrent ces compositions.
