Insulation that exhibits antimicrobial characteristics is disclosed. A method for making the insulation is also disclosed. Suitable antimicrobial agents that may be applied to the insulation or any components thereof include propiconazole, sodium pyrithione, tolyl diiodomethyl sulfone; tebuconazole; thiabendazole; 3-iodo-2~propynyl butylcarbamate; triclosan, quaternary ammonium compounds, metals, and mixtures thereof.
