This invention is directed to a broad spectrum antimicrobial composition which comprises a mixture of 1,2-ben-zisothiazolin-3-one, or a salt thereof, (BIT) and 1,3- bis(hydroxymethyl)-5,5-dimethylhydantoin (DMH), said mixture provided in an amount to protect a substrate from attack by one or more bacterial organisms. The composition can be used broadly in industrial sys-tems and more particularly with substrates such as paints, coatings, stucco, concrete, stone, cementaceous surfaces, wood, caulking, sealants, textiles, leather, wood, preservatives, metal working fluids, drilling muds, clay slurries, glazes, optical brightness, carpet backing, pigments and as a preservative for other aqueous and wet state products, and the like.
L'invention concerne une composition antimicrobienne à large spectre comprenant un mélange de 1,2-benzisothiazoline-3-one, ou un sel de celle-ci, (BIT) et de 1,3-bis(hydroxyméthyl)-5,5-diméthylhydantoïne (DMH), ledit mélange étant prévu en une quantité permettant de protéger un substrat de l'attaque d'un ou de plusieurs organismes bactériens. La composition peut être utilisée dans une large mesure dans des systèmes industriels et, plus particulièrement, avec des substrats tels que peintures, revêtements, stuc, béton, pierre, surfaces en ciment, bois, calfatage, produits d'étanchéité, textiles cuirs, bois, agents conservateurs, fluides pour l'usinage des métaux, boues de forage, bouillies d'argile, glaçures, agents de brillance optique, éléments de fond de tapis, pigments, et comme agents conservateurs pour d'autres produits aqueux ou à l'état humide et analogues.
