Specific transfer methods and articles to impart a metal-ion based antimicrobial finish to recipient textile surfaces. Such treatments preferably comprise silver ions, particularly as constituents of inorganic metal salts or zeolites. In particular, the inventive method involves the application of a solid, inorganic antimicrobial material to a donor substrate (such as a dryer sheet), and the subsequent placement of such a substrate within a tumble drying machine containing textile fabrics and operating the machine. The donor substrate, upon contact with the recipient textile fabrics, transfers antimicrobially effective amounts of the metal-ion based compounds to such recipient fabrics thereby imparting at least a temporary antimicrobial finish over at least a portion of such fabrics. The donor substrates, with either the antimicrobial compound alone or mixed with standard tumble dryer additives (such as perfumes, fabric softeners, fiber lubricants, and the like) are also contemplated within this invention.

L'invention concerne des procédés et des articles spécifiques de transfert permettant de conférer un apprêt antimicrobien à base d'ions métalliques à des surfaces textiles destinataires. De tels traitements comprennent, de préférence, des ions argent, en particulier utilisés comme constituants de sels métalliques inorganiques ou zéolites. Le procédé consiste, en particulier, à appliquer un matériau antimicrobien solide et inorganique à un substrat donneur (tel qu'une feuille pour sécheuse par culbutage); à placer ensuite ce substrat dans une sécheuse par culbutage renfermant des étoffes, et à faire fonctionner la machine. Le substrat donneur, au moment du contact avec les étoffes destinataires, transfère des quantités efficaces sur le plan antimicrobien de composés à base d'ions métalliques auxdites étoffes, conférant ainsi, au moins de façon temporaire, un apprêt antimicrobien sur au moins une partie desdites étoffes. L'invention concerne également les substrats donneurs, soit uniquement pourvus du composé antimicrobien, soit mélangés avec des additifs normalisés pour sécheuses par culbutage (tels que des parfums, des assouplissants, des lubrifiants de fibres et analogue).
