An antimicrobial material comprising at least one yarn comprising fine fiber of 1.0 denier or less and at least one yarn comprising antimicrobial fiber that are engaged with each other, wherein the antimicrobial fibers impart an antimicrobial property to the entire material. In a preferred embodiment, the yarns of fine fiber and yarns of antimicrobial fiber are woven or knitted together. It is further preferred that the fine fiber be less than 0.3 denier, have a diameter of approximately 3 microns, and have a generally triangular cross-section with sharp edges, therefore allowing the fine fiber to substantially remove bacteria, fungi and other microbes from a surface. It is also preferred that the antimicrobial fibers comprise an acetate fiber spun together with polyester to give the antimicrobial fiber added strength.
Ce matériau antimicrobien comprend au moins un fil comportant une fibre fine de l'ordre de 1,0 denier ou moins, ainsi qu'au moins un fil contenant une fibre antimicrobienne, ces fils entrant en contact l'un avec l'autre, et il est caractérisé en ce que ces fibres antimicrobiennes dotent tout le matériau d'une propriété antimicrobienne. Dans un mode de réalisation préféré, on tisse ou tricote ensemble les fils de fibre fine et les fils de fibre antimicrobienne. Une fibre fine préférée est inférieure à 0,3 denier, elle possède un diamètre d'environ 3 microns, et elle présente une section généralement triangulaire à angles vifs, lui permettant d'enlever sensiblement les bactéries, champignons et autres microbes, à partir d'une surface. On préfère également que les fibres antimicrobiennes comprennent une fibre acétate filée en même temps que le polyester, afin de conférer à la fibre antimicrobienne une résistance accrue.
