Therapeutic treatment as well as propylactic measures are provided by topical application of compositions containing an aryl 2-acetoxyethanoic acid to eradicate or prevent the development of axillary foul odor, foot malodor and other body odors, e.g. scalp, and skin, nail and follicular infections caused by microorganisms. The compositions are antimicrobial against several organisms that infect the skin and are specifically effective against P. acnes. The compositions are therapeutically effective against folliculitis and perifolliculitis and are useful for other skin lesions, nail and mucosal infections such as impetigo, seborrheic dermatitis, erythrasma and thrichomycosis axillaris, associated with or caused by microorganisms. The therapeutic effect of the composition may be synergized or amplified by incorporating a cosmetic or dermatologic agent into the formulation for topical treatment of cosmetic and dermatologic indications. The compositions are also useful as preservatives in food products, cosmetic and pharmaceutical formulations, and industrial preparations.
L'invention porte sur un traitement thérapeutique et des mesures prophylactiques par application de compositions à base d'acide aryle 2-acétoxyéthanoïque pour l'éradication ou la prévention d'odeurs de transpiration des aisselles et des pieds et d'autres parties du corps telles que le cuir chevelu, et des infections de la peau, des ongles et de follicules dues à des micro-organismes. Ces compositions sont des antimicrobiens actifs contre différents organismes attaquant la peau et surtout contre P. acnes. Elles présentent une efficacité thérapeutique contre la folliculite, la périfolliculite, différentes lésions de la peau et des infections de l'ongle et des muqueuses telles que l'impétigo, l'eczéma, l'érythrasme et la trichomycose axillaire associées à des micro-organismes ou causées par eux. Les effets thérapeutiques de la composition peuvent être synénergétisés ou amplifiés par incorporation à la formule d'un agent cosmétique ou dermatologique assurant un traitement local cosmétique et dermatologique de certains symptômes. Ces compositions servent également de conservateurs pour des formulations alimentaires, des formulations cosmétiques et pharmaceutiques et des préparations industrielles.
