A B S T R A C T Antioxidant compositions are obtained by aqueous extraction of plant tissues derived from Spinacia oleracea, Trifolium, Medicago, sativa, Zea mays, Nicotiana tabacum, Penicillaria, Allium and Algae. The antioxidant is preferably recovered from an aqueous solution by means of a chromatographic separation process. The antioxidant may be applied to the skin as a cosmetic to improve the appearance of the skin.
